Abstract

A system to embed meaningful, real-time evaluation within the classroom, facilitating a feedback loop between teachers and students was developed by the University of Melbourne in collaboration with Ai Media. The system converts speech to text in real time in the classroom, and uses automated teaching analytics and in-depth coding of the lesson transcript to provide feedback that supports development in teacher practice. This paper describes the pedagogical model that underpins this integrated teaching and learning development system. It demonstrates the technology and its applications, present some preliminary results from a trial in the United Kingdom, and discusses the broader implications for teaching and learning.
