Abstract
This book documents significant developments in teacher evaluation and identifies what they mean for the future, particularly with respect to initiatives for establishing new career paths in teaching based on the quality of practice. Part 1 outlines new models of evaluation and appraisal that currently provide a challenge for policy makers and practitioners in the field. Part 2 looks at the context in which national and state policies on teacher assessment are being shaped. Part 3 presents a series of case studies to indicate how particular schools are responding and contributing to the changing agenda on teacher review and development.
