Abstract
This study was intended to help answer the questions: How is secondary schooling viewed by the increasing numbers of young people who complete Year 12 but who do not enter higher education? and, Is senior secondary schooling relevant to those who move straight from Year 12 to employment, or to study in TAFE colleges? The study documents the post-school experiences of recent Year 12 school leavers who have not enrolled in higher education, and analyses their views on the labour market relevance of secondary schooling. These experiences and views are discussed in the context of linkages between education and the economy, developments in the youth labour market, and the changing composition of the Year 12 student population.
