Abstract
This article briefly reviews the report 'What Matters Most' of the National Commission on Teaching and America's Future and the implications of it for sincere strategies to improve the quality of learning for every child. The central theme of the report is that what teachers know and can do is the most important influence on what students learn - a theme policy makers in Australia have largely ignored or denied.
