Abstract

Teacher appraisal raises many awkward questions. For what purposes? In whose interest? By what means? At what cost? And so on. This book has been prepared to provide background material and information for Australian debate on the multitude of issues involved. The book comprises an edited collection of commissioned papers that discuss, from an Australian perspective, the major issues associated with appraising teachers and their work. It is composed of five main sections: The context of teacher appraisal; Teacher appraisal in practice; The state of the art in teacher evaluation; The challenge of teacher appraisal; and an extensive annotated guide to the relevant literature.
