Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

What comes to mind when you hear the word “librarian”? This month’s edition of SICS Radio explores that question by examining stereotypes of librarians, including depictions in film, tv and music. We’re joined by Bonnie Wildie, a reference archivist with the New South Wales State Archives, and formerly an academic librarian and library educator, and Romany Manuell, a research librarian for the Australian Council for Educational Research, and also a former university librarian. Bonnie and Romany share their experiences of encountering stereotypical views of librarians,  discuss the gendered nature of these stereotypes, and consider the impact they have on the profession. The show also features plenty of clips from tv, film and music featuring librarians.
