Abstract

Recent studies have shown that the rigours of the teaching profession have been taking a toll on teachers’ well-being. Many are choosing to leave the profession. Collie et al. in their 2015 study found that one-third of teachers leave teaching within the first five years. Job-related stress and lack of agency are two factors responsible for the attrition. Therefore, examining systemic issues at the school level can help teachers to find the right kind of support and school systems to ensure that teachers stay motivated and reach their full potential.
