Abstract
This project explored and documented school leadership and governance approaches used in three government school communities in the Northern Territory, that involve, support and retain local Indigenous educators and community leaders. The three approaches identified were selected because they each aimed to meaningfully involve Indigenous leaders in their school communities. The project explored approaches to professional learning and mentoring provided to support local community members to identify and inform the future approaches required so that Indigenous people can be retained and supported in the school education sector. The outcome from this project has been the development of two case studies outlining successful practices of school leadership and governance that meaningfully involve the local Indigenous people in their schools.
