Metacognition in Action

Tanya Vaughan

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

Tanya developed her keynote with interactive elements such as a word cloud, quiz, and think, pair and share. Through the use of  Mentimeter  and in collaboration with Haileybury’s information technology department, the word cloud and quiz results were projected in real time during the keynote. The keynote drew from the broader context of metacognition at Haileybury, describing the other pedagogical pillars and the place of metacognition in the Australian Curriculum and the Learning behaviour rubric. This enables teachers to measure elements of metacognition. The presentation described the practices of metacognition within different disciplines such as mathematics, art and narrative development within early childhood education. The keynote drew from many sources including the work of Geoff Masters, Professor John Hattie, Evidence for Learning, the Education Endowment Foundation, Dan Cloney, and work Tanya had published with Professor Brian Caldwell, Matthew Deeble and Susannah Schoeffel.
