Abstract

Talent: The Best Teachers for Australia’s Classrooms' commissioned by the Business Council of Australia and written by Australian Council for Educational Research staff. The paper describes five recommended reforms to Australia's education system in the areas of: recruitment of the most talented, capable and committed people into the teaching profession; implementation of a new national certification system that recognises excellent teachers; implementation of a new remuneration structure; implementation of a strategy for continuing education to maintain strict standards of practice; and implementing a national assessment and accreditation system for teacher education courses.
