Abstract
In 2002 and 2003, data were collected from students around the world for two major international studies - the IEA Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) and the program for International Student Assessment (PISA) of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). In December 2004, the results of both of these studies were released, providing up-to-date evidence about how levels of school achievement in Australia compare with international standards, particularly in mathematics and science.
