How does your collection measure up? : Using the school collection rubric

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

A new school library collection rubric is contained in a 2017 joint publication of the Australian Library and Information Association Schools and Victorian Catholic Teacher Librarians. The rubric can be found in Appendix C of 'A Manual for Developing Policies and Procedures in Australian School Library Resource Centres' (2nd edition) and provides a richer and broader set of criteria by which to measure a school's resource collection. Traditional quantitative standards considered the number of resources per student, or per topic or genre. These remain useful and have been included in Appendix A. The new rubric addresses the challenge of collections moving from predominantly physical formats to a blend of formats. It recognises and describes the components of a balanced, quality collection which meets the needs of the school community and provides a framework for measuring, evaluating and improving school collections.
