Abstract
The brave new world of online technologies is awaiting those teachers who have the courage to enter. The author encourages teachers to consider the issues and embrace all that this exciting opportunity affords. A concept of the value of online technologies to education is emerging slowly but is likely to increase rapidly once educators have resolved some of the issues currently holding back the use of these technologies as teaching and learning tools. These issues are discussed in this article and include those such as identity, privacy, security, online safety, copyright, plagiarism, filtering, social networking, digital literacies, resources and professional development. Useful web sites are recommended that provide teachers with an extensive collections of resources, tools and services about learning and teaching online. [Author abstract, ed]
