Abstract

This report details the outcomes of Phase Three of the Literacy Advance Research Project that investigates the implementation of this system- wide reform to improve the literacy development and student achievement of students in Victorian Catholic schools. There are two components to the research for Phase Three which examines and compares the growth in literacy of two cohorts of students from the beginning of Year 1 to the end of Year 3, and it follows the literacy development of the first cohort of students who were in Year 1 in literacy at the different year levels. The study highlights the importance of a strong foundation in literacy in the early years and the importance of student engagement and motivation for continued progress in literacy at the different year levels.
