Evidence-informed practice: effective feedback

Research output: Contribution to conferencePresentation

Abstract

Educators in this presentation will learn about the Evidence Ecosystem and the hierarchy of evidence. The Evidence Ecosystem is the interaction of two processes; the Impact Evaluation Cycle in schools and the Wider Evidence Chain involving education researchers and policy makers. Educators will learn about effective approaches in feedback, metacognition and self-regulation. The Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL) in partnership with Evidence for Learning have developed a suite of feedback resources for schools. This presentation will unpack these resources, which include the Spotlight research summary, case studies and evaluating impact. The section on metacognition and self-regulation will look at cognitive organisers and other mechanisms that are powerful in helping students learn. Using the Teaching & Learning Toolkit and the feedback implementation materials the educators will detail how they can turn evidence into action within their school (e.g. how to implement feedback at their school or across multiple classrooms). The educators will explore how they can use the approaches within the Toolkit to help address a selected challenge they are facing at their school. They will also explore how to measure the impact of the approaches they are proposing (e.g. pre and post measurements).
