N2 - This Special Issue of AER provides an opportunity for authors from five countries to critically examine classroom assessment practices that focus on enhancing student agency. Just as the focus of classroom assessment has shifted over time to include a greater understanding of the social dynamics, concepts of agency have developed from a focus on the rational individual as agent, to include the complex interdependence of individual agency and social contexts.
