Abstract

Civics and citizenship education is now a component of all State/Territory curriculum frameworks. The Commonwealth Discovery Democracy Program has provided support through curriculum materials development since 1997, and professional development since 2000. This research investigated how teachers are responding to these initiatives. It was conducted during 2001 and took the form of 'conversations' between university colleges and teachers. The results are reported in the form of four State/Territory based case studies. An overview is provided in order to highlight the main lessons that can be drawn from the cases.
