Abstract

The overall focus of participation in the Smith Family report, 'Barriers to Participation', is on educational participation in terms of engagement in educational activities and contexts that have an impact on an individual's development of personal, intellectual and social capabilities. The barriers the report addresses refer to financial, educational and technological disadvantaging factors that can have a negative impact on the educational participation of children and young people from low-income households.
