About

Maya Conway, M.Public Health, M.Speech Pathology, is a Research Fellow in the Education Research, Policy and Development program at the Australian Council for Educational Research.

Maya is an experienced researcher, project manager, and Speech‑Language Pathologist with Masters qualifications in Public Health and Speech-Language Pathology. Maya is passionate about improving health and education outcomes for children. Much of her previous research work has been focused on child development and child language, literacy and learning outcomes for diverse populations. Maya is a skilled academic writer and has led and contributed to numerous academic articles, literature reviews and peer-reviewed publications featuring these topics. She has also gained extensive teaching experience in the tertiary education sector as a Lecturer in Speech Pathology.

Maya is experienced in leading research projects, designing research study protocol, developing study recruitment materials, collecting and analysing both quantitative and qualitative data, and writing reports and publications to present research findings. Maya has international community development expertise and has managed research projects in India, Nepal, Kyrgyz Republic, and the Philippines, collaborating with community development teams, educators, and government partners on projects focused on improving health and education outcomes for children. Since joining ACER, Maya has also contributed to numerous domestic and projects focused on education policy and system reform, educational assessment, and disaster impact evaluation.
