About
Dr Dan Cloney, BBehSc Griffith, MIR UQ, PhD Melb is a Senior Research Fellow in the Effective Practice in Education Program at the Australian Council for Educational Research (ACER). His expertise is in early childhood education and care, and quantitative methods.
Dan’s research program focuses on the potential for high-quality early childhood education and care programs to support all children to flourish and to reduce development gaps caused by inequality. Current studies include the Australian Preschool Outcomes Measure (Project Co-Director) and OECD International Early Learning Child Well-being Study (Deputy International Study Director). Dan is also a co-author of the generalised item response modelling software, ACER ConQuest.
Dan was an invited member of the Preschool Outcomes Measure Expert Advisory Group (2021-2023) providing advice on the development of a new national formative assessment program to the Commonwealth Minister for Early Childhood Education and Minister for Youth. He is also an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Faculty of Education, University of Melbourne, and an Honorary Research Associate at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI).
